Antenna Up

Pictures: Here are a couple more of these flowers, I don’t see these a lot but I am not all that familiarize with the flowers of the desert.

Antenna : I have put my Antenna up for the MiFi device and it helps a lot in this location. It adds at least 2 bars of signal and a lot of speed to the connection.

Unlimited: This month should be a good test of my new Unlimited Verizon Plan because with the big Windows 10 (1703) update and my everyday use I am sure to go well into the 20s this month. We’ll see if I get slowed down or not. I don’t know how big that Windows update was but I had to restart it after 40% because of a loss connection so I can add 40% of it size to my data used. I am always supersized that Microsoft don’t have a way to save partly download updates in case of internet connections failing.

Privacy Setting: Windows 10 updates always makes you have to go though them again, but this time Windows Latest (1703) has gotten better about it. I still use a Program called O&O Shutup 10 just to check and there where a few things that I changed.

Windows 10 : Well the Windows 10 Anniversary addiction was almost 5 gig of data 😦 that took a chuck out of my data.

Chores: Went into the city today, did a little shopping and looking around.

Windows 10: I am now downloading Windows 10 version 1607, also known as the Anniversary Update. Wish me luck!

Update: Update my newer Laptop and looks like everything is working. I did have one crash just after the update, but looks like things are lined out now. I’ll keep checking programs as I go. It took me about 90 minutes to two hours to get it done.

Playing with the computers

Exercise: I have been doing fairly well on my exercise, nothing special but staying steady with either walking or riding the bike. Today was a 3 mile walk, yesterday was a 10 mile bike ride. Starting to get back to eating a little better too. I seen to have just loss my way totally during the holidays.

Windows 10 : Still playing with a few settings in both my laptops seeing as Windows 10 is fairly recently install on both. I am still learning to use some of Windows 10 features and some of those go back to Windows 8 …. Yes us old dogs can learn new tricks but we don’t get in no hurry about it 😉 One of the things I have let go is the Start menu that I have always added to the task bar since Windows 8, as I have became more comfortable with Windows 10 Start menu. I still dislike that you can highly modifier the icon side but have no control over the text side of it. I much prefer text menu to icons/ribbons menu and add text menu any time there is an option to do so. The Windows 10 Menu is alphabetical and I would prefer categories organization but I am starting to learn to live with it being alphabetical.

Laptop: The new laptop is doing okay by me and I am liking it a lot. Even with it being kind of low end it is still way better then the 5 year old one that I have.

More Windows 10

Windows 10: I have reset my older laptop and I think I did a good deed for the old computer, it runs much better 🙂 I have been upgrading it since I got it with Windows Vista, so 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 where all upgrades and I think that it lost something on the way up. Having two up and running Windows 10 laptops will give me a second backup of all my files plus a whole computer backup should one bite the dust. Now what to do about the desktop replacement? ….. still thinking Apple but I waiting to see what they do this year with their updates to the Macbook Pro. I will go with another laptop but one that will run a nice 4K monitor, that way I can have the low power use of a laptop and the nice big screen of a desktop when needed (or wanted) 🙂
The reset went pretty good, the only thing I lost where the USB drivers and after a bit of hunting on the internet I found the driver I needed.
My favorite site for my settings is here. This site pretty much has all the things I like to change in one place.

Exercise: Today I rode the bike for about 14 miles, nice ride.

New Computer: Still liking my new computer. It has great battery life and is doing a fine job. Just a little more working with it and I’ll reset(reinstall Windows 10) my other laptop. Something I have not done sent I brought it 5 years ago, I’ve always just upgraded and a reset is much needed I think. Maybe I’ll add a copy of Ubuntu on it too.
At some point I will reformat my hard drives on the desktop and take it down too. When I get an Apple computer that will be my desktop replacement.

Mac broke

Nuts!!! My Mac is not working right and has to go back. It is going to be replaced. The WiFi would not work right. I did everything I could think of and I was many hours on the phone with the techs till they wanted me to reinstall the OS which met a big download again and I said no I would just return it and then they wanted to fix it and I said no, for the money it should work out-of-the-box now! Next they wanted me to drive to the nearest Apple store 125 miles one way and I was guessing that it was going to take two trips (500 miles) so I said no to that! That is when they said they would ship another one(2 day shipping) as soon as I got this one to FedEx for shipping. They said I’ll get it Friday…. we’ll see.
More than likely a system file was messed up and a reinstall may have fixed it but I seen no reason to guess at it. At my data rates that could cost me a few bucks if it didn’t fix it then I would still have to send it back. I looked at doing the download at McDonald’s but the little time bar said (download time 50 hours) ….. okay! The last person I talk with, I ask if the next Mac would need all the updates that this one did and she said “no” I ask “really?” she said “we could refund you for your data?” I said “okay” because I do want the dang thing! I am guessing if I do get anything out of them it will be App store/iTunes credit or at best a credit for The Apple store and not a refund to my bank for the data I will have to pay for.

The problem was weird. Yesterday I was able to connect all but one time and a couple of restarts fixed that. Today I could not connect at all this morning and went to McDonald’s and tried their WiFi and bang! I had internet and then I tried my MiFi device (took it with me) and bang I had internet. Left McDonald’s come back to RV and try to connect and it did one time, after the one time it would not connect again with my MiFi. Called Apple worked with tech, called Verizon and worked with tech and then back to Apple with one more trip to McDonald’s (tech and McDonald’s together the last time) Again It worked with the McDonald’s connection and then would work with my Mifi.  I got out of range of McDonald’s and then tried a time or two with the MiFi and then it would not work. Just weird!

I’m going to give Mac one last chance, if I have any thing to wrong with the next one, Mac will be done and then maybe I’ll then buy a PC.  So …. last shot Mac!

And that folks has been my day.

Mac

Pictures: First post with the Mac! I am clipping and snipping …. well at least I’m trying to figure out how, LOL. Hi Folks I’ll catch up a bit in a day or two with my social stuff 🙂 promise!

I am doing a little better than I thought I might with my new Mac Computer. I like the ease of using the speech recognition Engine ( just hit the fn/function button twice and speak) and it seems to be pretty accurate. Not loving the speech talking side of it, sounds a lot like a computer, but easy to use (highlight and hit option/esc). Maybe I can find a new speech engine.

Installing and uninstalling programs and getting all the shortcuts and the (where is that program)’s down is a bit of a task but I”m coming alone 😀 I got Firefox, Thunderbird email, Evernote, Dropbox and a clip manager all install and all working well. I am not understanding way some thing show up in Applications under finder and some don’t. Oh, I got Clipboard Guru (From the app Store,.99) for the Clipboard Manager. I have burned up about 5 to 7 gigs of data today with all the downloads and updates (3 gig for the OS, one more gig for the installed apps) and a few other things here and there.

I remember when I had my Ipod many moons ago that the freeware for a Mac/i-stuff was a little harder to find and it still is but not as bad. Yes, the little lonely iPod is the only experience I have with the I-Stuff.

By the way I ask about using the track-pad or mouse ( in a earlier post) and it turns out that the mouse is working fine for me. Maybe one day when I feel a little more in the know I’ll make myself use the track-pad for a day or two just to see what it is all about. My mouse don’t have the back and forward buttons working but I’m doing okay with that.

I feel like I’m going to have to learn a lot of keyboard shortcuts with Mac …. we’ll see.

I think my biggest problem for a while will be making myself get off the computer!

He Made me smile

Pictures: Today I am going to post a pictures of one of my friends that passed on about 10 year ago and I sometimes still miss him. His name was Dude and we where great friends for over 15 years, this was his last year.

Here is one of the days we where both enjoying a rest on the pouch, and watching birds.
A Dude a2 003

I can’t remember what time of year it was ( had to be late winter or early spring) but I remember this day as he stood facing a hard wind and I thought that maybe he was enjoying it blowing in his face, he made me smile 🙂

Mac users question : Will my new Macbook Pro came with OS X El Capitam, the latest OS? I hope I don’t have to download a whole OS first thing 😦 It was built in early 2015 but refurbish later. Hopefully they updated the thing. I have limit Data is the reason I am concerned. I’ll know when I get it.

Question two, I like strong privacy (privacy not security) what are your recommendations? I like good security too but privacy seems to be harder to come by. As with all OS’s the biggest offenders are usually the OSs themselves. About 90% of the time, if ask, I give up my personal info but I don’t like it when it is just assumed it is okay to take it, or taken without really caring what I think. So if there are ways to control it I usually try to do that (many time there is not 😦 ) . So, what do you folks got for me, any privacy conscious folks care to share there setting or hacks?

Question 3, Does anyone have a good Clipboard Manager they use for their Mac, I prefer free but if not free, at least good. It don’t have to be highly featured either, I want to save the last ten clips and be able to store maybe ten clips for use at any time. I want to clip anything so more than plain text. In Windows I use Ditto which is great. Any one use Copy’em Paste?
