Chilling and Researching

Today I was very lazy! I got on the computer this morning and spent the day researching VPN’s. I did a lot of reading and that has been the only thing I have done the entire day! I stopped to eat a few times but that has been it.

I did a test run on NordVPN and I didn’t care for it, it was a lot slower than the one I have now which is PIA. I did take a lot of interest in ExpressVPN and I may one day move to it but not for now.

Does anyone out there use ExpressVPN here in the U.S. Would love to here what you think of it and how it does for speed from this side of the water.

Here is a shot of Variegated Fritillery from my very old Photobucket files. Sorry clicking won’t get you a bigger image.

Same as above but this one is a Northern Pearly Eye.

How to Hotlink Photo From Flickr to WordPress

I am not a coder or web developer so bear with me in my none tech talk ways 😁 Also I am not a writer. This is how I hotlink my Flickr photos to my WordPress Blog. What am I calling hot-linking you ask?? For me it means that my images are stored on Flickr but are shown on my WordPress Blog by linking. This is done by using a little HTML code.

Note: If you have some knowledge of HTTP and linking go to Short Summary at bottom of this tut.

NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ANY HTML CODING OR CODING OF ANY KIND TO DO THIS! I am living proof of this, if your took all the coding I know and put it in a thimble and shook it twice it would be lost forever! The point is, you can do this even if you know nothing about any HTML or coding of any kind.

Let us start.

Upload the images you plan to post on WordPress to your Flickr.

How to Hotlink Photo From Flickr to WordPress with clickable link to a lager image. In other words clicking the photo on WordPress will give you a bigger images. Why do this you ask …?? Not all folks have fast internet service and getting pages to load with full size images is really slow and sometimes not possible.

I never put full size images on the web, I see no need to. My largest image size is (2000 X “whatever”) with 2000 being the largest dimension. I think this is big enough and more than sufficient to show the quality of the image.

To make loading easier I use clickable images in a smaller size and that is (640 X “Whatever”) with 640 being the largest dimension.

In summary  I  post images in a size of (640 X whatever) on my blog and make than Clickable to view at (2000 X Whatever). Again, the 640 and the 2000 are always the largest of the dimensions of the images.

So now we know what we are doing …. on to how we do it.
First of all copy the code below and put it in a Notepad, clipboard Manager or a Sticky Note on your desktop and save it forever, just get it stored somewhere handy because you will need it to hotlink ever image.

<a href=”XX Large Image Here XX” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”> <span style=”color:blue;”> XX Small Clickable Image Here XX </span></a>

Note: All text inside of the XX (to include the XX will be replaced by code from Flickr).
Let us call this XX location for small image XX Small Clickable Image Here XX and XX location for large image XX Large Image Here XX. Don’t worry with it for now.

Okay got that line of code stored away? Let us open some tabs and do some logging in! Start by opening at least two tabs in your browser. Also open a text editor (for Windows user that can be Notepad) you can likely do this in most any text editor.

On tab one Login to WordPress, on Tab two login to Flickr. Upload your images to Flickr if you haven’t already done so. Go to your Blog tab and make sure you are in are in the HTML code mode on your blog . If you’re like me you will be in the admin editor (1)below, or you may be in the normal New Editor (2)below. Choice text in the Admin Editor, or HTML in the normal New Editor.

Editors

Next pick the spot in your blog where you want your image to be and paste the above code there. (The code you got safely stored away) 👌

Now go to your Flickr tab

Click on your image in Flickr that you want to link to. At the lower right you will see some symbols (image below) click the share symbol.

get-code

This will put up a white box. In that box click Embed(Image below) and that will change the box a bit.

Embed

Let us get the code for the smaller clickable image (the one that will show on our blog and is smaller for easy loading).

At the bottom of that Embed box you have a drop-down menu with different sizes, click it and pick (640 X Whatever) With 640 being the largest dimension (Note: you can pick the size you like but for now just pick the 640). Now at the top of that box there will be some code (just under the Embed).

Right click this code, that will highlight it and give you a drop-down menu and from that menu pick Copy. Now go to your text editor(Not WordPress Editor) and paste that code in the text editor. It should look something like the code below.

Note: Ignore the red below and space between code, look at it as a whole. There will be no red and no space between the code. (My theme is causing this)
Note 2: I can’t get this to display right so I am posting a images of it too. (A clickable image 👍 )

<a data-flickr-embed=”true” href=”https://www.flickr.com/photos/99998229@N05/33173500886/in/dateposted-public/&#8221; title=”Poppy-phone-2-20170302″><img src=”https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3887/33173500886_439a7d7595_z.jpg&#8221; width=”640″ height=”165″ alt=”Poppy-phone-2-20170302″></a>//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

Click for a larger view.
Small-Image-Code2

Now we only need part of that …. the part we need is the code below or the highlighted part in the image above and it will look something like the code below. So on your code you find the <img src and that is the start and then it ends with the greater than symbol. You copy that part of it, as below. This will be the small image that shows on your blog.

Note: Ignore the red below and space between code, look at it as a whole. (My theme is causing this). It start with <img src and ends with “>

<img src=”https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3887/33173500886_439a7d7595_z.jpg&#8221; width=”640″ height=”165″ alt=”Poppy-phone-2-20170302″>

Okay, back to your blog we are going to paste this part into the code we put on your blog earlier. Paste this part over the XX Small Clickable Image Here XX on the code in your blog, now the code in your blog should look something like this after pasting …

Note: Ignore the red below and space between code, look at it as a whole. (My theme is causing this).

<a href=”XX Large Image Here XX” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”> <span style=”color:blue;”> <img src=”https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3887/33173500886_439a7d7595_z.jpg&#8221; width=”640″ height=”165″ alt=”Poppy-phone-2-20170302″></span></a>

We now have a clickable image on the blog and we just need somewhere to go when we click it, which of course is the large image.

So ….. back to Flickr. On Flickr in the Embed box we are going to pick the size we want to show when the image is clicked . For me that is (2000 X whatever). Once you have pick the size in lower part of the Embed box, again at the top of the Embed box right-click the code and copy.

Back to the text editor and paste. The code will be a little different this time because we have a different size. Should look something like this …

Note: Ignore the red below and space between code, look at it as a whole. There will be no red and no space between the code. (My theme is causing this).

<a data-flickr-embed=”true” href=”https://www.flickr.com/photos/99998229@N05/33173500886/in/dateposted-public/&#8221; title=”Poppy-phone-2-20170302″><img src=”https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3887/33173500886_2fc475386d_o.jpg” width=”2000″ height=”516″ alt=”Poppy-phone-2-20170302″></a>//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

This time we need less of the code, we need the code below, or the part in (bold and red) in the code above. When looking for this again find <img src and go to the https to start and end with jpg.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3887/33173500886_2fc475386d_o.jpg

Paste this part over the XX Large Image Here XX in the code on your blog ….
you are done!! Should look a lot like the code in the image below.

Done

If there is something you don’t understand or have question about please ask in the comments.

Short Summary ….

which you will be able to use once you have done the long version a time or two. Once you have used the short summary a few times you will not need it either.

1. Post save code to your blog. Make sure your WordPress Editor is in HTML code mode first.
2. On Flickr get code for small image and paste to small image XX location on blog.–
In the Embed box with size (640 X Whatever) Selected copy code and paste to Text editor, copy needed part for small image, It start with <img src and ends with > Paste to XX Small Location on blog.

3. On Flickr get code for large image and past to large image XX location on blog.
In the Embed box make sure the large size image you want when small image is click is selected in the size drop-down and then copy code. Paste code to text editor and copy needed code for XX Large Location. It is right after img src and start with https and ends with jpg. Paste to blog XX large Location.

4. Done!

Posting image Without a clickable part

I hope you have read the above part because it is the best way to post images in your blog. However I am now going to tell you a short way to post images that are not clickable but you can pick the size you want to show.

After posting your image go to Flickr go the share box/Embed and pick the size image you want to display, copy the code and paste to text editor(not WordPress Editor) and then get the part for the small image (as Above) and paste that straight into your blog without anything else. It will display the image in the size you picked.

Example, the below code will place an image in your blog all by itself.

<img src=”https://farm1.staticflickr.com/908/40390822320_8f9c045a9c_o.jpg&#8221; width=”1366″ height=”103″ alt=”Small-Image-Code2″>

Is it Over?

Holidays: Holidays, are they done for a while? Oh good!!! Sometimes there is way to much of a good thing 🙂

Blogging: I am starting back blogging today but it might be a bit before I get on track with photos and such. I will at least say Hello and Night Folks each day 🙂 Hey, that is the best I can do for now, LOL.

Texting: Over the last year I have just started to do a little texting … why you ask? Well, seems like over the last year I have run into people who want to do it. Most of the folks I know are older like myself and didn’t want to text, but that seems to be changing a little. What made me think of this is that I just got a text form an old friend that I know just hates anything Smartphone, so if he is willing to texts than it must be catching on with us old folk! Right Barry? LOL.

Firefox: I have always use private browser mode in Firefox but I have learned about an extension Mult-Account Containers that I like even better than private tabs. The extension seems to isolate tabs better when putting tabs in their own container. One of the best things about this is that I can log into both my google accounts and both my Flickr accounts all at the same time and they can’t see each other on Firefox. Helpful when you want to make different setting to like accounts 🙂

Internet: Over the last few months I have had lots of problems with Verizon internet service, I think maybe they have overloaded they network since they have push so hard with they new unlimited plan. Like most big businesses they like to get the customers but hate to do the services, (money for as little effect as possible).

Exercise: I have kept up with my exercise, doing five days a week and taking two off, but I have put on a good amount of weight over the last year and it is making it hard. I’ll keep pushing!

Friends: I have 3 folks in the area that I know from last year. Good to have folks around that you know.

Sea Horse Flower?

Pictures: I have no ideal what this flower is but I want to call it the Sea Horse flower, LOL. It is quite the little beauty. As I recall the flowers themselves are dime size, while the plants was about 2 feet tall.

Exercise: I have walk a couple of miles today.

Moved Today: Well I have moved another 25 miles north or so and up about 2500 feet in elevation. Should be cooler 🙂

Verizon Unlimited: Well today after getting set up in my new location I did a speed test on the MiFi Device and I am running 4G speed again and I am well over 10 GIG. However I think they will get around to making it 3G after 10 Gig at some point in the near future.

Antennas

Pictures: Here is another Yucca and a flower.

MiFi Antenna: I am not all that happy with my MiFi Antenna and was looking around the net and I am starting to see more and more info on MIMO Antenna that will connect to the newer MiFi Devices with two Antenna ports on them for Verizon I guess that is the Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot AC791L and the Verizon Jetpack MiFi 7730L . I see like all things the price for these Antenna are all over the place. I would love to hear from anyone that has one of these new Antennas and is using it with a two port device.

Birds: I am seeing House Finches, Lesser Gold Finches and Black-Chinned Hummers. It is good to see birds coming to my feeding areas again.

Exercise: I walked about 2 miles today. Seems I am walking about every other day now 😦

Data/Phone Plan: I guess this month I’ll be testing the limits of this Verizon Unlimited Plan, I am near 7 gigs and I am only about 8 days in. I am sure to go over this month in both the 10 gig data limit as hotspot/MiFi Device and the total limit of 22 gigs, if I see any slowing I’ll let you know! This is not the best place for testing as the area has very slow 4G on any plan.

Weather: It has been just fine! A little windy sometimes but that is not all the bad to me.

Wild Flowers

Pictures: Just some wild flowers around here.

Exercise: I walked a couple miles today.

Internet/Phone: I have changed my plan again. For a long time now I have had a deal with Verizon for 20 gigs of data a month, and I have been using Straight talk for my phone. Today I sign up for the new Unlimited Verizon plan, Unlimited has a few limits unfortunately 😦 LOL. I was very aware of all the details before signing up. The main reason I took this deal is that it is less than I was paying with both the phone and the data now. Paying less is better!
My worries and what it will be. Verizon says ……. That you get 22 gigs before they may de-prioritize your speed depending on tower congestion. Also if you use your phone as a hot spot or have a MiFi device added to your plan you get the first 10 gig at 4G speed and than slowed to 3G (which they call 600Kbps) for the rest of your use. Now …… 🙂 here is the deal, folks that signed up for this plan a month ago are saying that they are not being slow down in either case …… so we will see how things go! If they do slow me down I will see if I can live with it and if not I will be on the hunt for other deals which I know are out there!
If you want to read about the plan just google Verizon New Unlinited Plan and you’ll get all kinds of info on it.

Weather, and thinking ahead

No pictures today.

The weather here has been warm to very good. It is now time to start thinking of what spring and summer will bring, as in where I will go for the summer months. It is still a month or so out but I am thinking on it. When it is time to get started I will move to somewhere where the elevation is around 4000 feet or so to spend the spring time. As summer sets in I will look at areas 6000 to 9000 feet. This has pretty much became my pattern over the last few years and I like doing it like that. I look for weather that gives me night temperatures of around 50° and day temperatures in the 70° to 85° range. Of course life don’t always give me the things I want so I may miss by a few degrees :/ Needless this is the gold.

Oh, one other thing that I want to find other than good weather is some good birding 🙂

Yesterday I worked on the RV roof again and I am about done with that job (so glad). I need to check out a few more things on the RV before I get on the road for the summer.

I had not exercised for two days so I started today with a 2 mile walk, much-needed.

Verizon new unlimited plan! Ouch, has any of you folks try to read all the new rules to this plan? I have read the forums on this new plan and it is hard to understand and a lot of unknowns of rather rules will be enforced or might be enforced, LOL. On the surface it looks like a fine new plan but the fine print can be a little confusing, to say the least! One of the things that could be a problem is that in the fine print when roaming on other networks it goes to 2G (unusable for internet). Than there is the only 10 gig of high-speed (4G) as a hot spot, as in using your computer/table and such on it.

Night folks

I want Sunshine!

Pictures: The cloudy days are staying around for a while, not why I come here! The good thing is, it will pass 🙂

If I want to see a bird out my window ….. :/

Now-7D1_4596

In all fairness I do get to watch Hummers when it is not real windy like today. On windy days, I have to set my Humming feeder on the ground to keep the wind from rocking it back and froth causing all the sugar water to spill out. This sugar water would end up on the side of my RV.
Mind you, if I was not in such a homebody mode when I was here in my winter area, I am sure there are areas not far away that would be pretty good birding places if I got out and about.

Cloudy-7D2_3509

Exercise: It is already 3:30 pm and I have not did any exercise, not sure I will get to that today.

Solar: There has been a couple of days in a row now with little to no sunshine, I may have to get out the generator for a while tonight. I don’t very often have to do that with my solar system on the RV. I have about 520 watts of solar on the roof and 4 batteries to store the power in which is about right for my needs. In the RV solar game some folks need/want/have far more and some need/want/have far less, all depends on how you use things and your needs/wants. I think that I am likely in the middle of the road with my system. I do see a lot of folks that have half or less but than I see them use their generators far more (sometimes not always). I see some that have twice as much and still run a generator a lot (sometimes not always). I find few folks that are at just the right amount for their needs. I think solar is kind of like money …. the more you got the more you spend, the more solar you have the more you use 🙂

Internet : My connection continues to be problematic, with all the folks around. Could be that the weather is not helping much today.

Pictures: Just a couple more sunsets, it’s all I got …. for now 🙂

Internet: My internet is acting up a bit now that all the visitors are coming in packs now. The Wireless towers take a pretty good lick every year about this time. Quartzsite, AZ is a town of about 2000 people but it can have as many as a million people visit in a years time with most of those folks coming in Jan and Feb, in their RV’s. Read more about Quartzsite, AZ here. At any rate it puts a load on the wireless towers and I can tell by the the way my MiFi device and phone behaves. Well, maybe that is right …… I am about 12 miles or so from Quartzsite and maybe I am on different towers but no matter, same effect because this area is busy too.

Exercise: Just my usual 2 miles.
