Is it Over?

Holidays: Holidays, are they done for a while? Oh good!!! Sometimes there is way to much of a good thing 🙂

Blogging: I am starting back blogging today but it might be a bit before I get on track with photos and such. I will at least say Hello and Night Folks each day 🙂 Hey, that is the best I can do for now, LOL.

Texting: Over the last year I have just started to do a little texting … why you ask? Well, seems like over the last year I have run into people who want to do it. Most of the folks I know are older like myself and didn’t want to text, but that seems to be changing a little. What made me think of this is that I just got a text form an old friend that I know just hates anything Smartphone, so if he is willing to texts than it must be catching on with us old folk! Right Barry? LOL.

Firefox: I have always use private browser mode in Firefox but I have learned about an extension Mult-Account Containers that I like even better than private tabs. The extension seems to isolate tabs better when putting tabs in their own container. One of the best things about this is that I can log into both my google accounts and both my Flickr accounts all at the same time and they can’t see each other on Firefox. Helpful when you want to make different setting to like accounts 🙂

Internet: Over the last few months I have had lots of problems with Verizon internet service, I think maybe they have overloaded they network since they have push so hard with they new unlimited plan. Like most big businesses they like to get the customers but hate to do the services, (money for as little effect as possible).

Exercise: I have kept up with my exercise, doing five days a week and taking two off, but I have put on a good amount of weight over the last year and it is making it hard. I’ll keep pushing!

Friends: I have 3 folks in the area that I know from last year. Good to have folks around that you know.

Bills

Bills: I am up, I have had my breakfast, got the gate open to the park this morning, paid my bills and wash up, so … I guess my day is on it’s way.

Bird of the Week: Let me see what it’ll be …. Okay this one everybody sees, Canada Goose.
.

Flower: I took a picture of some wild flowers that I liked but the sun light was too harsh, so I used a filter effect in Photoshop, some kind of paint thing.

Exercise: I do a lot of walking and bike riding while I’m working around the camp ground so I have not been doing any exercise for the sake of exercising. I am getting plenty.

Desktop: I get really use to the Laptop and the tablet when I am in the boom-docks but it don’t take me long to get back spoiled to having the big screen of the desktop, back in front of me.

Firefox and tight controls: I use a lot of plugins with Firefox that gives me a little better control over what web site do and see. Here is a list of them.

  1. Adblock Plus
  2. Better Privacy
  3. DoNotTrackMe
  4. HTTPS Everywhere
  5. No Google Analytics
  6. No Script
  7. Self-Destructing Cookies

I also use these and they are very helpful.

  1. Exify
  2. Lastpass
  3. Xmarks

Firefox is the only Browser that allows this much control, that I know of.  This is why I try to use it on my tablet when I can.

Busy

Staying busy: As we go through the holiday weekend the camp ground is staying busy with folks coming and going steadily. Today there will be a mass exit as people will have to get back to work tomorrow, after having a fun time this weekend. At any rate, it’ll keep me going for today.

Update 4pm; I have gotten pretty much caught up for today but I had to keep busy to do it. Shouldn’t be this busy again till the 4th of July.

Tablet: My tablet is getting a lot more use this weekend. I’m in and out so much that I don’t have a lot of time to set down with the computers. The tablet is just too handy to pick up and add a few lines to the blog, looking something up on Google or checking the weather. Just a few years ago you could have never convinced me that I would be using a tablet so much, they are just so handy. My friend that just left, had a Windows Tablet and it make me think about getting one but Windows Tablets just don’t act ready for prime time to me. Many of them don’t even have GPS built-in, and looking around the net I don’t see a go to map/navigation app for Windows Tablets, speech recognition seems to be pathetic to me, Android and Apple seems to be far ahead with speech when comparing. What is with Windows and all the Training you need to do with speech to get it to understand you! And even with the training Windows, my Android does a much better job at recognizing my southern drawl then Windows does. With Android or Apple you just pick them up and start talking! I think maybe some of the higher cost Windows Tablets are much nicer but for a lot less money I can get an Android Tablet that does all a Tablet needs to do, and does it well. Do you have to train Windows phones for speech? A good Google question, I’ll look it up.

Walk: I have not walked today for exercise but I walk plenty around the camping area, for sure enough to call it exercise.

Birds: I have a few Black-chinned Hummers coming to my feeders and I happy to report that the Bullock’s Oriole have follow me over to my new location, I have at least one male and one female coming to the feeder.

Gate: One of my camp ground chores here over the pass week has been to open the gate to the park at 6am each morning and that gets me woke up each morning in the cool air. I kind of like the early morning because it is peaceful and quite with few people moving about just yet, the birds are chipper and full of energy and the sun it’s just getting the lights on.

Walking: My friend hit the road today, so I’m taking a day off from walking other than the walking I do around the camp ground as I do my thing. That does add up to a good bit of walking too.

Mobile Browsers: I try hard to use Firefox as a mobile browser but it is just not as smooth, or as fast as my Dolphin browser. Dolphin loads faster and seems to run better in about all cases, but still I use Firefox a good bit, because it does have far better plugins.

Firefox on a Windows machine is the absolute best choice, as far I’m concerned.

Another Short Walk

Workout Summary:
WORKOUT SUMMARY for 04/21/2014 – 04/27/2014
9 workouts
8 routes
16.9 miles
7.9 hours
2,219 kCal burned

Computer: Today I have been playing on the computer with Ubuntu. I installed a new version of the OS(14.02 LTS) and I am playing in it now as I do my post. Needless to say this has been most of my day, it is already near 3pm. Hey, I’m having fun 🙂 It is so nice to be hooked up to electric and be able to run the desktop all day and do these kind of fun things.

One of the first things I had to work out was to find a way to get my Evernotes to Ubuntu and I did that with a program called Everpad on Ubuntu. They work well together but the Everpad is not as full featured as Evernote by no means, but it gets the job done.

Bird: Sticking with the White Throated Sparrows, here is another picture, taken in KY.

Silly Problems: My first problem is that one of my batteries up and stop being able to charge so I had to remove it for my 4 battery system, meaning that I had to remove two of my batteries because they are wired in series/parallel arrangement (I have four 6volt batteries in a 12volt system). This is going to be a problem when I go back to the boon-docking, I’ll be down to half my power. The good part is that I will only be boon-docking for 10 days after I leave here, then I’ll be hooked-up to electric for the rest of the summer.

My next problem is that my browser of choice for Windows 8 on my desk-top is doing something silly and messing up the letters it puts on the screen. But only on the desktop with Windows and Firefox. I have Firefox running here in Ubuntu on the desktop and it is fine. More than likely something in the Windows Register messed up with the latest update. I tried to un-installing  and  reinstalling but it did not help. Well, it will give me something to fix later on.

Weather: A couple more days and this little cold snap should be over, hopefully. I have not enjoyed it LOL. Boo to cold weather 👿

Shopping today

Weight 185.6:

Weather: Little cool this morning, well compared to what most of the winter has been like here this year. So, it is still super nice weather, overall.

Shopping today? :I think I may go out for a bit today.

Yes, that is what I did. I picked up a few food items, some water for the RV and some drinking water. I picked up ten gallons of drinking water because I find myself drinking near two gallons a day.

Moved: Not far, but I did move (1000) feet maybe. Just enough to get off the 4-wheeler trail. While I was out and about today, I looked over most of the available boom-docking areas around the Lake Havasu and decided this was the better of the bunch. I will more than likely stay here till the end of the month. New locations . I would maybe stay longer but I think it will be way to hot in April.

Tablet: I am playing around with my browser for the tablet. I have always used Dolphin but I’m thinking I will switch to Firefox. They have made some changes to Dolphin and they changed the things I like most about it. I have always used Firefox on my computers but like Dolphin on the tablet because of it being a little different in that some of the function worked by swiping form the sides(which I liked) but they took that away 😦   I do think Firefox Mobile has much better add-on support than Dolphin too. It is also easier to sync my bookmarks with Firefox being on both my computers and my devices. So I’ll play for a while.

Can’t stop playing

That’s right, I can’t stop playing with Ubuntu, so much new stuff and things to figure out! 😯  Now none of you that know me would have ever figure that, right? See what happens when you hook me up to electric? Since I installed Ubuntu a couple of days ago I have not been on Windows to do much of anything. It is kind of fun learning how to do things in another OS. I will not take it too far, because there is a very deep-well of learning to do in Linux if one wants to dive in.  I think things go pretty good for me when I move to Ubuntu Linux because it has a great interface and I use much of the same software that it comes loaded with, like Firefox, Thunderbird, Keepass, Dropbox and others. There is a lot of software that is equivalent to Windows software and other software just works on both OS’s. For example today I installed Everpad which will sync up with Evernote just fine. There are others that I have done too. But it is getting to be too many to keep up with.

Exercise; I have done a little bike riding today, about 7.5 miles just riding around town. I am so close to everything that I just use my bike for transportation, a really nice thing about this job. I will take one more small ride to warm up for some stretching here in a little while and that will be it for today, exercise wise.

I tried my best to get Ubuntu and Windows 8 to duel-boot but it is not happening. I just unplug the Ubuntu drive if I want to go to Windows 8. I broke Windows 8 from booting yesterday and had to fix it, twice even! I had to put the install disc in and restore the boot-loader. Lucky for me I was able to do that, I sure don’t want to do the whole Windows 8 install thing again, I don’t guess it would be no big deal but I had rather not, it is kind of boring.

OK, I think I will take that last ride on the bike now. Later.

The Weekend is on

Yes time to relax and chill out. I have a friend that will be leaving the area (Deming) on Monday so today we are going to hang out. My friend, like me, is on the Atkins diet but today we are going to do bad and have us a pizza. I have already started to eat bad with a Biscuit and gravy from Denny’s and then a Cinnamon melt from McD’s, so I will be on a roll all day! It feels good to eat the junk food once every now and then. I have made a rule of no more than once a month for bad food days. Over all however, it feels better to not be too far over weight, so I will be careful with the bad food days.

Weather; It is cool here today, just 56 ° inside the RV, but I think by the end of the weekend it will warm up. Looks like nice weather for next week with temperatures in the 80’s for the day and 50’s for the nights.

Computers; I am enjoying playing around with Ubuntu. I just now was figuring out how to do the Character code for the degree symbol in Ubuntu. In Windows you do ALT+ 0176 and that gives you this little guy ”  °  “, but in Ubuntu you do Ctrl+Shift+U and while still holding the Ctrl+Shift you do Letter “B” and Number “0”    so pretty much like so   Ctrl+Shift+UB0 . In Windows you can find a list of Characters at Accessories/System Tools/Character Map. If you are doing Linux you can find a nice list here. It is fun to me to learning little things like this.

On FireFox I found a new Plug-in that I like and it is “DONOTTRACTME” by Abine. I don’t know why I bother with these privacy plug-ins, if you are on the web, everything is pretty much out there.  I think I just like making it hard on all the marketing folks ……….. yes photo yes.gifI do!! I all so use Noscript and BetterPrivacy, All that should give the marketers some work to do.  I got to remember to add DONOTTRACKME to my Windows machines. I am pretty sure I lose all my privacy when I get on my Smartphone or Tablet, I think they are pretty open to all kinds of tracking.

If I find the time today maybe I will get me a haircut. Update 3:30 pm I got that hair cut.

Playing around with Ubuntu and Windows 8 booting order a little, hope I don’t break nothing. 😯

Later.

Slack day

Today I caught up on my weekly hours total (15), so I can kind of lay back for the weekend. Still have a half hour to do but that will be gone in nothing flat.

I paid all my bills today, both my dollars now gone! LOL, sure feels like that sometimes.

Computers; I usually keep most stuff blocked, with my Noscript plugin for Firefox but before I started to install some of them I seen a few things that could be handy, recommended links and tags, so maybe I need to open the script up just a little. I am really liking the recommended links, very helpful, but to use this I have to open two sites, amazonaws.com and zenamta.com …………. However, after reading up on amazonaws.com …………. it is not going to happen, amazonaws.com is a bad egg, read about it here.

Exercise; Today I will take off but if the winds permits I will ride the bike tomorrow. It is very windy today. I have missed two days of stretching now, I guess, I best get off here and do that now.

Later.

Ubuntu all set up

I am again posting from OS Ubuntu. I now have my email going and some of my plug-ins going in Firefox. Ubuntu is user friendly, if you ask me. Some of the software that I have install is ; Keepass, Thunderbird Email and Chromium. Of course it come with Firefox and I am using that now. The plug-ins that I have installed to Firefox are; Xmarks, LassPass, Https EveryWhere and seeing as I have not found a good Text to Speech app for Ubuntu, I added ImTranslator (a Google  app) and I am liking it very well. I wanted it for the speech but it is useful for far more than that. You can read about it here. I downloaded Chromium for a TTS app (ispeech), it is a little faster than Imtranslator when the web is busy.

Exercise; has been my walking around the park as I work (5 hours today)  and I missed my stretching yesterday, maybe I will get to it today.

OK enough for today, later.
