Shinny but cool

Sunshine a plenty, but it is cool today. The next 3 or 4 days will have some pretty cool nights (in the 30’s) so I may have to break out the heater for a while in the evenings. Warmer weather should come back by the first of next week.

I will be taking the day off from exercise, the new knee was a little fussy  this morning and I have not taken a day off for some time now. I may do some stretching later on but no exercise. I also might get the camera out and go walk around a little to take some picture but I will keep that walk short. When I walk a lot my knees do bug me and I have done lots of walking instead of riding the bike, I do prefer walking to riding when it is cooler but the knees had always rather have the riding. I guess it is a lot less impact on the joint to ride. I have broken the golden rule of taking  at least one day off a week, and having a light exercise day once a week. I will have to watch that. If I could only find a little more discipline and do upper body workouts three-time a week that would be prefect. Makes me want to get up and do a push-up ………….. NOT! But I do need to ……. ! Today would be a good day to start ………………… LOL maybe? We’ll see.

I have watched the Windows 8 app store and so far I have not found an app that I like all that much, well not for a Windows computer because I have full programs that are better than the apps. So far every metro app I have play with has a better desktop version or a better full program that can be used. I do have many programs that I run as apps on the Android devices and the desktop both, but see no need for the Windows 8 metro version because the desktop version is just better to me, such as, Evernote, Dropbox, Lastpass and so on. Maybe one day there will be an app that does not have a good Windows desktop style app that runs on devices only  that I will want, or maybe I will get a Windows device and find apps that can go between the two metro machine. Mind you, I still think Windows 8 is a step up and worth having.

Time to get out of the chair for a spell.

Update; Just a few lines before I set in to watching the TV for tonight. I did do about 10 minutes of workout this afternoon, I know, I know, not much but it was a start. I did very little stretching today but some. Tomorrow we will see how it goes. As for the weather this evening, it is cool and clear. I may need a little heat later on, we’ll see.

Borke spoke

Broke spoke on the bike. Yesterday after riding I notice that the wheel was wobbling more than it should so I got a tool to adjust the spokes and found one broke. I will have to find a bicycle shop to buy a spoke or a wheel or just have them fix it. If I had been smart I guess I would have kept a few spokes when I had the wheel replace last time. I need to start doing my owe work on the bike anyway. We’ll see. I will stop at the bicycle shop one day next week when I go into Casa Grande.

For exercise today I took a very short walk of 2 miles. I will probably walk tomorrow too, seeing as my bike is kind broke down. I don’t mind walking for a few days.

Windows 8 and metro apps, I am just not finding much need for metro apps on the computer. I have everything I need in desktop apps. I am sure one day I will find a metro app that I can not live without, but not just yet. I can see it being handy if one is totally used to getting their information this way but I am not, not just yet. I think as smaller device take over more and more of the jobs of computers the metro apps will become more center to our life’s. It is taking me a while to make the switch, but I do find myself reaching for the phone or the tablet a lot more lately, even when I am on the computer. Maps and information is just so fast on them as compare to the computer. For example, I pick up the tablet just a bit ago hit the “Google Talk” button and asked “Bicycle shop in Casa Grande, AZ”   and had a phone number and address in about 2 seconds. Shoot that’s better than a smart wife ………. and a lot cheaper  ❗     LOL. So maybe if Windows 8 starts to get that kind of apps on the desktop with the controls to turn speech recognition on and off as needed, maybe I can see using them.  As it is now it would take me a minute or two to get speak recognition going.  After writing this I had to try things out and it don’t work near as well on the computer. LOL , not yet.

Fly the coop

It should not be long before I can hit the road. I think that I am two or three weeks out. Couple more things to get done and then off to other things.

Exercise/stretching; I got back on the program this morning with my normal stuff (bike ride and stretching). I felt a little stiff all through the exercise. Taking a look at the weather explains it …… the Humidity was about 65% this morning at 6 am so maybe I will do better as the days goes by the Humidity drops off a bit. That old humid weather bug my bones.

The weather has been very good so far but I hear we have a cool spell coming. Of course it is still too hot over in Casa Grande, but it will not be long before the weather is right.

Windows 8/ Windows RT; I know and understand the differences between these two but the every day user is going to be very confused I think. Here is a good read Microsoft has indeed done a very poor job on educating folks about the differences. Windows tablets will come in two version, one; will be Windows RT and will only run metro style apps and two; tablet with Windows 8 will run most all Windows program including desktop apps like Photoshop.  Oh, the Windows phones ………. again they do not run Windows desktop style programs, they will run metro apps. If you are looking at buying into the Windows tablet or phone, it is best that you do your reading.

I do think that for folks that do very light computing like email and internet browsing that either tablet may do them fine. I am also thinking that a full Windows 8 tablet may be all one needs as a back up computer ( maybe for me). For now I will take the wait and see attitude. One thing about it all, the touch interface is making a very big splash in the market.
