Computer: Today I have been playing on the computer with Ubuntu. I installed a new version of the OS(14.02 LTS) and I am playing in it now as I do my post. Needless to say this has been most of my day, it is already near 3pm. Hey, I’m having fun 🙂 It is so nice to be hooked up to electric and be able to run the desktop all day and do these kind of fun things.

One of the first things I had to work out was to find a way to get my Evernotes to Ubuntu and I did that with a program called Everpad on Ubuntu. They work well together but the Everpad is not as full featured as Evernote by no means, but it gets the job done.

Bird: Sticking with the White Throated Sparrows, here is another picture, taken in KY.

Silly Problems: My first problem is that one of my batteries up and stop being able to charge so I had to remove it for my 4 battery system, meaning that I had to remove two of my batteries because they are wired in series/parallel arrangement (I have four 6volt batteries in a 12volt system). This is going to be a problem when I go back to the boon-docking, I’ll be down to half my power. The good part is that I will only be boon-docking for 10 days after I leave here, then I’ll be hooked-up to electric for the rest of the summer.

My next problem is that my browser of choice for Windows 8 on my desk-top is doing something silly and messing up the letters it puts on the screen. But only on the desktop with Windows and Firefox. I have Firefox running here in Ubuntu on the desktop and it is fine. More than likely something in the Windows Register messed up with the latest update. I tried to un-installing  and  reinstalling but it did not help. Well, it will give me something to fix later on.

Weather: A couple more days and this little cold snap should be over, hopefully. I have not enjoyed it LOL. Boo to cold weather 👿

Rufous Hummer

Weight 185: The ideal of posting my weight everyday was to shame myself into motivation ……. It appears that I have no shame 😦 LOL.

Humming Bird: I have just seen a Rufous Hummer. I wouldn’t have thought it was time for them to be headed north yet, but looks like it is. They are beautiful little birds, with their bright orange color.

Weather: The wind has started early today, it is that time of year. I mentioned the winds but of all the possible bad weather the wind is probably my least concern and fortunately that’s about the only kind of bad weather we get on a constant basis here in the deep Southwest. Of course it can get hot in the summer but that is when us RVers head for the mountains 🙂 (If you want to stay the summer in the southwest ). One of the most dangerous things about the wind is trying to travel in a RV when it is blowing, it can be dangerous.

Exercise: Today exercise was a walk, definitely too windy to ride the bike. I walked with MapMyWalk+! Distance: 4.15mi, time: 01:22:03, pace: 19:46min/mi, speed: 3.04mi/h.
http://mapmywalk.com/workout/507704071 I did add in some good stretching today.

Vista to Windows 8 : A friend of my is making the change from Vista too Windows 8.1 , this is a shock for many. The users interface is just one big major change.

News time:

Night folks

It’s a Sunday

Yes a lazy Sunday is upon us, one last day off for me. I think I will do a little shopping today and later on maybe a bike ride.

This morning I was playing around in Windows and realized that I had installed Skype the app instead of the desktop version of Skype. I changed this right away. Man, the apps are just desktop hogs, when it comes to using space on the screen. If you want to talk to someone on Skype and use another program while chatting it would not work out to well with the app Skype. You know, thinking on this ………… if Microsoft really wanted to make in roads in the mobile area, one the things that I would like to see changed is the ability to see as many apps on a tablet or phone as I like with screens that could be sized as I like. In other words make the app world like the desktop world and not the other way around. I think this would be a good selling point for me. Yes, I like the ideal of re-sizable apps! There are a few apps that do this now and I have one called, Stick It, and it is a video app that I use to play podcast, needless to say it is one of my favorites.

I could not get an encryption software to work on all my devices, it is possible but it is not happening for me, I am missing something. I guess the big thing is I don’t know much about Linux. No matter, I took the long road and I am using two pieces of software, one to sync from Windows to Linux (Truecryt) and one to sync from Windows to Android (BoxCryptor) and I use Bropbox for the cloud in both cases. Both these pieces of software make a Drive on your computer so when I update a file that I want everywhere, I then  just drop that file in both Drives and then everything is synced with Bropbox.

Today is another nice cool day here in Deming, it is great that we are having these days of cooler weather, but it is sure not to last long, with it being near mid May already.

Time for a new bird and this week it is a Northern Cardinal on a rainy day in KY around 6 years ago. I would think that this is a summer rain and I was sating on the pouch with my camera on a tripod and just enjoying myself, I miss those days sometimes but not enough that I want to go back. No, I am never going back, it is just a part of my pass.

Enough for today, later.

Back on Windows today

I have played around with Ubuntu for a few days now and I can get most things to work but now and then I run into something that sets me back. I could live with the OS if I needed to and it is fun to play around with, but I do know Windows a little better.

A friend of mine stopped by today to say “see you later” and that he will be hitting the road tomorrow morning. Good traveling  (Max)! I hope you have a great summer, and I look forward to seeing you again in Yuma next fall.

Today I went out and did my end of month shopping (on the 5th) Barry!  Barry my  friend is  in center picture below in this link LOL. Barry always fussed with me as to rather it is the end of month shopping, when I do it after the 1st. I insist that it is ❗

I will take it ease today with maybe a little stretching and that will be all. No bike riding, I’ll rest up for next week, so I can be on my feet for 15 hours. I did get a total of about 10 miles on the bike and my stretching done yesterday.

Bird of the week, this is an Eastern Bluebird and this picture was taken in KY maybe 6 years ago.

Have a nice day folks, later.

The Weekend is on

Yes time to relax and chill out. I have a friend that will be leaving the area (Deming) on Monday so today we are going to hang out. My friend, like me, is on the Atkins diet but today we are going to do bad and have us a pizza. I have already started to eat bad with a Biscuit and gravy from Denny’s and then a Cinnamon melt from McD’s, so I will be on a roll all day! It feels good to eat the junk food once every now and then. I have made a rule of no more than once a month for bad food days. Over all however, it feels better to not be too far over weight, so I will be careful with the bad food days.

Weather; It is cool here today, just 56 ° inside the RV, but I think by the end of the weekend it will warm up. Looks like nice weather for next week with temperatures in the 80’s for the day and 50’s for the nights.

Computers; I am enjoying playing around with Ubuntu. I just now was figuring out how to do the Character code for the degree symbol in Ubuntu. In Windows you do ALT+ 0176 and that gives you this little guy ”  °  “, but in Ubuntu you do Ctrl+Shift+U and while still holding the Ctrl+Shift you do Letter “B” and Number “0”    so pretty much like so   Ctrl+Shift+UB0 . In Windows you can find a list of Characters at Accessories/System Tools/Character Map. If you are doing Linux you can find a nice list here. It is fun to me to learning little things like this.

On FireFox I found a new Plug-in that I like and it is “DONOTTRACTME” by Abine. I don’t know why I bother with these privacy plug-ins, if you are on the web, everything is pretty much out there.  I think I just like making it hard on all the marketing folks ……….. yes photo yes.gifI do!! I all so use Noscript and BetterPrivacy, All that should give the marketers some work to do.  I got to remember to add DONOTTRACKME to my Windows machines. I am pretty sure I lose all my privacy when I get on my Smartphone or Tablet, I think they are pretty open to all kinds of tracking.

If I find the time today maybe I will get me a haircut. Update 3:30 pm I got that hair cut.

Playing around with Ubuntu and Windows 8 booting order a little, hope I don’t break nothing. 😯

Later.

Cool Saturday

Cool Saturday, yes today is a cool one, so winter is coming to the desert. I have not gotten out for my exercise just yet but I will take a walk a little later and I may give the stretching a break for the weekend. Don’t like the cool morning much but at least it is not freezing temperatures.

2:45 PM  OK I got my walk in and it was about 3 miles or so. I did a little stretching but not a lot but I am OK for today. Tomorrow will be lazy Sunday so I will give the old body a rest.

Check the tracking on my Windows 8 copy and it is setting in Las Cruces. I hate that, LOL. I can’t play till Monday!

Birds; Had a fellow pull in beside me who is a birder and a photographer, so I got to talk a little birding, that was nice. By the way the Bird of the Week has been updated.

Truck

Well maybe this will be the week I have my truck done. We’ll see.

Windows

Well Microsoft is still the same I see as i am having my first problem with Windows 7 and it is with the Speech Recognition reacting slow when I turn it on or click on the listen button. Oh well that is what happens when you keep updated. Maybe it will fix it self later LOL!

When it is on it is a hog when it comes to CPU uses. Oh Well!

If one wants the best speech recognition out there from what I have read it is Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. Some reviews gave Microsoft a pretty good rating. My has became buggie for some reason.

Book

I read a lot yesterday morning and last night.  I am at book 10.

Yes I think I will go off and read now.

Later John
